Hi PREV Community,
Three cheers for PREV students Elizabeth Bates and Avery Turner for successfully defending their dissertations!
Elizabeth defended her dissertation on “An Exploration of Intersectional Disparities in School Readiness and the Role of Social Assistance Policies” just before Spring break.
Avery’s dissertation defense was this week and focused on “Evaluating the Implementation of Two Required Online Alcohol Prevention Programs for First-Year College Students.”
Both were outstanding examples of the integration of research and policy in the area of prevention science. I am very proud of both students and honored to have served as their advisor.
Please join me in congratulating both of them. A few photos of the newly minted “Dr’s”, their committee, and family and peers are attached.
-Leslie

The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon, and they continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
