Subject: [Prevscilist] Three incoming faculty in Fall 2024!

Greetings CPHS community,

I am delighted to share the exciting news that 3 new tenure-line faculty will be joining our department beginning in fall 2024! I included a brief blurb about each faculty member below. For those of you wanting more detailed information, please see their CVs (from 2023) attached. Together, they will teach students across our department, including FHS, CFT, CPSY, and PREV. Each new faculty member is cc’d on this email if you’d like to reach out to welcome them!

Thank you,
Leslie

Ashley Linden-Carmichael: Dr. Linden-Carmichael received her PhD in Applied Experimental Psychology from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, prior to joining the research faculty at The Pennsylvania State University. She is currently an Associate Research Professor in the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University. Her NIH-funded program of research aims to identify influential and underlying psychosocial predictors and consequences of high-risk drinking behavior (e.g., co-use of alcohol and cannabis, blackout drinking) among young adults. She also has a particular interest in using innovative methods and statistical approaches to assess and intervene in higher-risk alcohol use patterns in real-time and context.

Cindy Huang: Dr. Huang has a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the UO and completed postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and the Asian American Center on Disparities Research at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Huang is a licensed psychologist in New York State and eligible for licensure in Oregon. Dr. Huang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focuses on understanding the cultural factors associated with child development and psychopathology for racial/ethnic minority and immigrant youth, and the prevention of psychopathology through culturally informed, evidence-based interventions.

Kristin Perry: Dr. Perry received her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, and completed her internship at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Prevention and Methodology Training (PAMT) at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Perry’s research uses a prevention science and developmental psychopathology approach to study prenatal substance exposure and its impact of child and family outcomes. She is particularly interested in examining modifiable protective factors, such as sensitive parenting, to inform prevention and intervention programs. Her research uses innovative methods to understand these complex developmental pathways.

The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon, and they continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
