The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, a grantmaking entity in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to focus on the intersectionality of racial justice and the drivers of mental health.  The fellowship at the foundation is a two-year, project-based learning opportunity for a recent graduate who wants to apply their knowledge towards community well-being in Texas.

Purpose
Building on the foundation’s goal of funding for racial equity, the postdoctoral fellowship seeks to fill a gap in professional opportunities for Black, Indigenous, or other people of color interested in applied research activities after graduation. The fellowship will expand the foundation’s capacity to understand and raise awareness about the social and political determinants of mental health.
 
Responsibilities

  *   Co-design a research agenda with relevant stakeholders and identify meaningful information that could deepen understanding of the drivers of mental health as well as offer solutions for overcoming structural racism and inequities in Texas.
  *   Conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and/or synthesize research that supports the goals of the foundation, grant partners, and stakeholders.
  *   Develop publications, such as journal articles and blog posts, that contribute to the body of knowledge about the intersectionality of racial justice and the drivers of mental health.
  *   Create summaries and data visualization for grant partners and members of the public.
  *   Participate in foundation-wide activities, group learning, and cross-unit committees.

 Required Qualifications 

  *   PhD (received within the past three years)
  *   Strong understanding of the relationship between racial justice and mental health
  *   Excellent research and analysis skills
  *   Interest in community-led, culturally responsive, equity-focused, applied research (or other similar methodologies)

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Experience with applied research activities.
  *   Strong ability to write for multiple audiences.
  *   Willingness to use one’s own life experience in professional settings, to bring diversity of thought and background to strategic learning conversations about race and mental health. 

Salary Range
$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  *   Flexible work arrangements are available for this position, including the ability to work remotely.
  *   Standard office environment.
  *   Work requires the use of a computer daily.
  *   Travel is not expected, but supported when appropriate and needed to achieve goals.
