Subject: PREV 610: Intro to Suicide Prevention Announcement
PREV 610: Intro to Suicide Prevention Practice and Research is a new course being offered this fall by Dr. John Seeley. This class will be held on Wednesdays from 9-11:50am. Please see the course description below and enroll if you are interested!
This course will examine suicide from a public health perspective, focusing on evidence-based practices for prevention, intervention, and postvention. Students will gain an understanding of suicidality through prominent theory and current epidemiology, in addition to foundational knowledge of risk and protective factors. This course will provide a framework of understanding suicide through the lifespan in the context of the socio-ecological model, examining the impact of suicide at the individual, family, community, and global levels. Students will have the opportunity to explore and challenge their own attitudes and beliefs about suicide, while hearing from those with lived experience and who work in the field. Students will also learn about current ethical and policy issues in Oregon and the United States surrounding suicide and suicide prevention.
Thanks!
-Sarah
