Greetings PREV students,
We learned from the Qualtrics survey you received about 2 weeks ago that many of you are living in Eugene, and that some of you are interested in physically distanced events. We’d like to plan 2-3 events each term, all of which are entirely optional. We will aim to have a range of times of day/days or the week and types of events, so that if one doesn’t appeal to you hopefully another one will.
To kick this off, tomorrow (Thursday October 8th) some of us will be meeting in the parking lot of Mt. Pisgah @5:30pm, to go for a hike. If you have not been to Mt. Pisgah before, there are many trails of differing lengths and steepness that can be taken. It is about 10-15 minute drive from campus. https://mountpisgaharboretum.com/ The hike to the top is 1.5 miles up (and 1.5 miles down…) if that is of interest, or there are very short walks or medium length ones. We can split up and go on multiple paths, depending on preferences.
If you would like to join, please wear/bring your mask because it may not be possible to always maintain 6’ distance. Athletic shoes or hiking shoes are both fine. You may wish to bring water for yourself too. Partners, friends, and dogs on leashes are welcome. No RSVP needed—just meet in the main parking lot at the base of the main trail at 5:30pm Thursday if you want to join. Note that there is a fee for parking ($5) as it is a County park. If you would like to attend but transportation or parking are a barrier, please email me directly by 2pm tomorrow and we can solve this. Faculty welcome!
If you have ideas for future physically distanced outdoor events, please send them to Anna Cahn, your PREV representative on the Dean’s committee, or please feel free to schedule something yourself and invite the PREV community. The other idea we’ve heard is a bring-your-own food and own chair to a park get together—perhaps in a few weeks. Stay away for a little while longer rain!
Thanks,
Leslie Leve, Anne Mauricio, & Anna Cahn

The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians of Oregon, and they continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
