Highlights:
Challenging the “Ideal” Body - Bryan O. Rojas-Arauz
Thursday, February 20
2:00-2:50pm
Duck Nest
We live in a society in which physical appearance is held in high
regard. Every day we can scroll and see our social media full of new
health challenges, trending diets, or new life changing product. Women,
and men, will go to extreme lengths to meet standards for youth and
beauty. In our daily lives, we spend time, attention, and money, chasing
unrealistic standards. Where do these standards come from? What is the
cost of meeting them? And when does chasing an “ideal” body get in the
way of living healthy lives? How can we prioritize our health while
loving who we are not after a transformation, but for who we are today.
These are some of the questions we will be covering. To this end, we
will examine the overt and unspoken rules that dictate how we should
look and feel in order to redefine what it means to be “healthy”. This
workshop is part of All Sizes Fit programming and is free and open to UO
students, faculty, and staff.

their research with Latino men and eating and body image, and with
Latina women and body size perceptions. They will also discuss research
with non-white populations regarding body image, the Western thin body
ideal, and why BMI is not a good measure of health.
Food and drinks will be provided! This event is free and open to all
students, faculty, and staff.

Accepting and Loving Myself - Bryan O. Rojas-Arauz
Thursday, February 27
2:00-2:50pm
Duck Nest
Self-acceptance is one of our most difficult challenges, we live in a
society in which beauty standards, and life expectations make it
impossible to fully accept and love ourselves. In this workshop we will
use mindfulness, to learn how we can truly embrace who we are. It seems
all too easy to fall into the trap of judging ourselves as inadequate,
finding fault with our achievements or our bodies, and believing our
self-critical inner voices. In this workshop we will work on ways to
better honor ourselves and who we are, explore what it means to love
yourself, how to do it, and its benefits, as well as identifying the the
importance of self-love in our lives. This workshop is part of All Sizes
Fit programming and is free and open to UO students, faculty, and staff.
More than Meets the Eye: Weight Stigma and Disordered Eating - Maggie Head
Monday, March 2
1:00-2:00pm
Education 176
This event is a discussion about the connections between weight stigma,
diet culture, and disordered eating. These topics are often kept in the
shadows while society bombards us with messages about how to eat and
what we should look like. The discussion will close with resources and
strategies for navigating these important issues. The discussion will be
led by Maggie Head, a UO graduate student in Prevention Science.
Food and drinks will be provided!
To The Bone Movie Screening
Tuesday, March 3
6:30-9:00pm
Lawrence 115
In honor of All Sizes Fit, a campaign to promote positive body image and
eating disorder awareness, join us in watching To the Bone. This film
follows a young woman struggling with anorexia and her journey to to
self-acceptance and recovery. After the film, we will open a
conversation about topics discussed in the film.
Men and Body Image - Bryan O. Rojas-Arauz
Thursday, March 5
2:00-2:50pm
Duck Nest
The way we view our bodies can have a significant impact on our
self-identity. Due to social expectations and gender norms,
male-identified students may be less likely to talk about their
insecurities related to body image. This workshop will address factors
that may contribute to perceptions of body image, discuss healthy eating
habits, and provide students with positive coping strategies. This
workshop is part of the Movember programming and All Sizes Fit.
