Prevention Scientists,

You are invited to a guest lecture next Tuesday, May 21 from approximately 3:05-4:50pm in Lokey 176.
Thanks to the Baney Guest Lecture Award, the lecturer will be Dr. Donny Gerke, Assistant Professor at the University of Denver School of Social Work.

Here's a brief bio for Dr. Gerke:
Dr. Donny Gerke is an Assistant Professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Seattle University, and a Master and PhD of social work from Washington University in St. Louis. Based on the syndemic framework, Dr. Gerke's research focuses on the relationship between violence exposure and HIV risk behaviors among young black and white men who have sex with men, including the roles substance use and mental health play in that relationships. His work masterfully reflects how social determinants of health contribute to health disparities among marginalized populations. Dr. Gerke has had impressive success in attaining external funding to support his research from the National Institute of Mental Health (T32), National Institute on Drug Abuse (F31), National Association of Social Workers Foundation, and the Society for Social Work and Research. Dr. Gerke also spent six years in direct practice. Most of his practice experience involved providing sexual-risk focused counseling and delivering evidence-based community interventions aimed at reducing HIV infection and drug abuse in sexual and gender minority populations through Lifelong AIDS Alliance in Seattle, WA.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Liz Budd
