*_OHC Speaker to Discuss American Identity in the Age of Drumpf_*
*Thursday, January 25th, 7:30 pm at UO Portland’s White Stag Block, 70
NW Couch St. *

George Packer, a staff writer for The New Yorker since 2003, will
present lectures on the topic of “American Identity in the Age of Drumpf”.

In Packer’s view, “The Drumpf Presidency is a symptom of the fracturing
in American society that goes back years and runs deeper than economics
and politics to the meaning of being an American. None of the currently
available narratives of national identity point a way out of our
failure. Is there another way to think of ourselves as Americans?”

*_Duck Nest Wellness Center Recruiting Volunteers:_*

Peer Wellness Advocates are students who are interested in helping
promote wellness and general well-being on our campus. Being a Peer
Wellness Advocate (PWA) involves being a resource for students by
staffing the center for a two hour shift each week and being part of an
outreach group that focuses on a specific topic, as well as the
potential for special volunteer opportunities such as presenting to
groups on the topic of self-care or tabling for special events. Topics
of focus this year include nutrition, self-care, wellbeing, sexual
health, and social health but are likely to change each year. The weekly
time commitment for this volunteer position is 5 hours/week and it is a
great way to gain experience, get more involved with health initiatives
on campus, and learn about public health.

PWA applications are open from January 2-29. The link can be found on
the Duck Nest website (health.uoregon.edu/ducknest
<https://uoregon.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=eb5dd26ecdf70d4e0ce1e4f42&id=7bf38b4299&e=aa2a31865e>)
or on our Facebook page (Duck Nest Wellness Center). Each volunteer who
is selected will sign up for a 3 credit, upper division course taught on
Mondays from 4pm-7pm in the Spring (where they will learn about campus
resources, peer health education, and a variety of health topics) and
will start volunteering at the center the following Fall term.

If you have questions or would like more information please email
peerhealth at uoregon.edu <mailto:peerhealth at uoregon.edu> or come to an
information session on Wednesday, January 17th from 5-6pm in the Duck
Nest Wellness Center (EMU, 041).

*Join us for "Write Time" *

The “Write Time” is held on Wednesdays, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, and
Thursdays, 8:30 - 11:00 am and is designed to help you set aside a
specific block of time for writing each week that works with your
schedule. You choose when you come and how long you stay.

There is always free tea and coffee for your enjoyment. So bring a mug
and join peers who are also trying to get writing done in the Grad
School Lounge in Susan Campbell Hall.
