Subject: coe-staff: FW: Dr. Tasia Smith Funeral
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am passing along information about Tasia’s memorial service. The service will be held at Wayman Chapel Faith Center, 1923 Osborne Rd. Hamlet, NC 28345 at 1 PM, Sunday December 16th. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 pm with the service starting promptly thereafter. More information about the congregation and facility is available at http://www.waymanchapel.org/faith-center/. The relevant phone numbers are 910-817-6136 for the Church, and 910-817-6366 for the Faith Center. You may also visit their Facebook page where you will see a lovely photo of Tasia from earlier years.
I will be preparing a letter on behalf of all of us that will be read at the ceremony.
Flowers can be sent to the McPhatter Funeral Home, 9701 Malloy Ave, Laurel Hill, NC, 28351. Donations can be mailed in the name of Dr. Tasia Smith to Goodwin Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, P.O. Box 306, Gibson, NC, 28343, or physical address 2949 Newton Road, McColl, SC 29570.
Tasia’s mother has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her church, which is the Goodwin Chapel AME Zion Church.
Tasia’s mother, Ms. McGlendon, remains appreciative of our plan to host a memorial event here in Eugene. We will begin planning the memorial to occur after the start of classes, and at a time that will encourage student attendance.
I also wish to thank the many staff and faculty who helped Tasia’s family, and all of us through this difficult time. Many helped Tasia’s parents and family members while they were in Eugene this past weekend making all necessary arrangements.
I know that our individual and collective sadness runs deep. It is hard to understand how someone as vital and full of promise as Tasia could die so soon of natural causes.
With sadness,
Randy
