Friday, February 26, 2016

Submissions due December 18th and January 8th

The 7th annual Grad Forum, a one-day conference that showcases UO's graduate student research, scholarship, and creative expressions, will be held at the Ford Alumni Center on Friday, February 26, 2016.This year's Grad Forum themes revolve around ideas of interdisciplinary work, innovative research and life in the Pacific Northwest. Each category is suited for research and artistic expressions in the arts, humanities, and sciences. The themes include: Crossing Borders, Crossing Cultures, Crossing Frontiers: language, migration, identity, and the synthesis of cultures; Breaking New Ground in the Sciences: approaches to reproducibility and data management, shifting paradigms, and innovative research practices; Challenges for a New Generation of Leaders: policy, scientific, and social approaches to emerging and continuing catastrophes; and In Our Own Backyard: Pacific Northwest life, research and education, community and philanthropy. Students can apply to participate in one of four ways:

  1. Poster Submissions: Submit a 100-word abstract of your research. Posters will be presented on a 24-by-36 inch standard poster board. Presenters will compete against one another for a monetary prize.

  1. 5 Minute Presentation Blitz Submissions: Submit a 100-word abstract of your research. Presentations will be 5 minutes long, made to a broad audience as part of a presentation "blitz" on a wide range of topics! Presenters will compete against one another for a monetary prize.

  1. Individual Submissions: Submit a 100-word abstract and be paired with three to five other presenters with similar areas of research or who also fit with one of the four themes listed above. Each presenter will have 12 minutes apiece to present their research. Presenters will compete against one another for a monetary prize.

  1. Group Panel Submissions: Submit a 300-word abstract with three to five other presenters with similar areas of research or who also fit with one of the four themes listed above. At least three different fields must be represented (for example: Art History, Biology, and Business) and the group is responsible for finding their own moderator. Group presentations will compete against other group presentations for a monetary prize.
