Thanks, Susan. There do seem to be some resources for different languages hiding out in various places. The FIAF document is definitely well-researched. The site that Helen suggested, http://home.snafu.de/ohei/ofd/md_terms_e.html, is helpful for many European languages. Off-list, someone also suggested http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossaire_du_cin%C3%A9ma for French terms and there may be parallel resources in other language Wikipedias.

Here is a short Hungarian-English list of film terminology: http://www.euro-tv.hu/info-lexikon.htm. Just scroll down to Credits = Stáblista. It’s not comprehensive but useful for me. You have to have some knowledge of Hungarian to have an idea what terms you’re looking for.

Some of you may know this link as well: http://www.fiafnet.org/publications/Glossary%20of%20Filmographic%20Terms%20%28English%20Version%292008%20revision.pdf from the International Federation of Film Archives. From this document the definition for Producer is “Producer, Production, Produced by. The head of production who bears the ultimate administrative and financial responsibility for a film. In practice, the role of a Producer may be wider and can include creative involvement.” The definition for Production manager is “Production Manager, Unit Production Manager, Production Supervisor. The individual who manages all administrative and technical details of the production, from preparing the shooting schedule and negotiating crew and equipment contracts, to approving purchase orders and authorizing the payroll. In units with both a Production Supervisor and Production Manager, the former is usually subordinate to the latter, but may assume some of his or her responsibilities if the Production Manager also acts as the Co-producer.”

This FIAF list is based on the Anglo-American film industry but they plan to translate the list into other languages taking into consideration linguistic and structural differences.
