Subject: New IACUC Policies/Guidelines - Photo Videos, Visitors, Pilot Studies, Exempt Research
Hi everyone,
The UO IACUC has adopted four new policies/guidelines that we hope will streamline some processes and clarify expectations. These include:
* Animal Care Facility Photo, Video, and Social Media Guidelines<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/animal-facility-photography>
* Provides storage guidelines
* Clarifies expectations for permissions
* Includes techniques for images and videos
* Discusses classroom usage
* Visiting Scientists and Visitors Guidelines<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/visiting-scientist-guidelines>
* Provides form for visiting scientists <6 months
* Provides form for visitors with no animal contact
* Guidelines for Pilot Studies<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/pilot-study-guidelines>
* Provides form for pilot study results
* Includes guidelines and examples for pilot study qualification
* Exempt Research Guidelines<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/exempt-research-guidelines> (this includes Zoo research too!)
* Includes visual flowchart for determination of exempt status
* Provides form for submission to IACUC for review
I would also like to take a moment to introduce our revamped website<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/animal-facility-photography>, which will hopefully make accessing resources easier. From the main page, you can find a variety of helpful links that include the IACUC<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/institutional-animal-care-use-committee> page, which includes the Meeting Schedule<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/iacuc/meeting-schedule>, Protocol Preparation<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/iacuc/protocol-preparation> tips, and Guidelines for Pain and Distress<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/iacuc/guidelines-pain-distress>. On the main page, the Policies<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/policies/animal-facility-photography> are also available, as well as a new Resources<https://research.uoregon.edu/manage/integrity-compliance/animal-research/uo-external-resources> page with a variety of educational items and helpful links. Please feel free to browse and check out the new material, such as the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE)<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jove.com/__;!!C5qS4YX3!GEH2q6GPUJHaIPkxz6XsU_oeut3F1vTDbFBgdovrvvRDrhM9gsCyhSgDxQrXhbHfO70vUwb9BnH6U0s5Lw$>, The Experimental Design Assistant (EDA)<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.nc3rs.org.uk/our-portfolio/experimental-design-assistant-eda__;!!C5qS4YX3!GEH2q6GPUJHaIPkxz6XsU_oeut3F1vTDbFBgdovrvvRDrhM9gsCyhSgDxQrXhbHfO70vUwb9BnHfSWK8NQ$>, and NC3Rs<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nc3rs.org.uk/__;!!C5qS4YX3!GEH2q6GPUJHaIPkxz6XsU_oeut3F1vTDbFBgdovrvvRDrhM9gsCyhSgDxQrXhbHfO70vUwb9BnFF4MbLkQ$>.
Thank you all for your support in ensuring animal welfare through your research. If you have any recent refinement, replacement, or reduction efforts you would like to share, please reach out! We’d love to hear about what you’re doing and celebrate your hard work. Additionally, we’d love to hear about your recent accomplishments. We love to see your work! Please feel free to send new publications our way!
Have a great week everyone.
