Dear DI Listmates:
At several times over the past decade, the National Institute for Direct
Instruction (NIFDI) has taken steps to establish a program training OPEN
REGISTRATION EVENT in the UK that would involve PROGRAM TRAINING in one or
more PROVEN DIRECT INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS. While NIFDI has provided bespoke
on-site and remote training in several programs to numerous partners in the
United Kingdom, we have not been able to offer an event in which ANYONE
with an interest in receiving the GOLD STANDARD in Direct Instruction
training could register and attend…until now!
I am very pleased to report that, in conjunction with the Knowledge Hub
https://www.knowledgehub.org.uk, NIFDI is offering training in
Warwickshire, England on delivering two highly effective DI instructional
programs on the following dates:
*Corrective Reading Decoding 2008 B1-C*
https://www.nifdi.org/programs/reading/corrective-reading.html
Thursday 2 and Friday 3 July
(Register by Tuesday, 30 June)
*Corrective Mathematics, Operational modules (Addition, Subtraction,
Multiplication, and Division)*
https://www.nifdi.org/programs/mathematics/corrective-math.html
Thursday 9 and Friday 10 July
(Register by Tuesday, 7 July)
REGISTER AT
https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/events-calendar/training-event/uk-training.html.
As many of you may know, the *Corrective Reading Decoding* program comes in
four levels. The training will not include level A, which starts out at
the pre-primer level. Here are the approximate initial performance levels
of students who place into the three levels that are being trained at the
July events:
*Level*
*Initial Year Equivalent*
B1
2.5
B2
3.5
C
5
The *Corrective Mathematics* program comes in seven levels called “modules”.
The first four levels covering basic operations (Addition, Subtraction,
Multiplication, and Division) are being trained at the event. (I HIGHLY
RECOMMEND that anyone with pupils who struggle with fractions should check
out the next two highest modules, *Basic Fractions*; and *Fractions,
Decimals, and Percents*.)
*Placement testing*
Before attending the training, it’s optimal to administer placement tests
to any pupils under consideration for these intervention programs. The
placement tests are administered individually. The placement test for
*Corrective
Reading Decoding* requires 5-10 minutes per pupil, and the placement test
for *Corrective Mathematics* requires 10-20 minutes per pupil. The
placement tests can be found on the NIFDI website:

*Who is the trainer for this event?* He is Jon Owen, one of the brightest
young stars in the DI community. He is highly knowledgeable, very
organized, and thorough. When training, he focuses on preparing each
participant for success. He has gone through *all* of the more advanced
training that NIFDI offers, and he will systematically build the skills of
participants so they are ready to start to deliver the program effectively
to any student who places into the programs.
For those of you who are in North America, here’s info on the National DI
Conference, which will take place in Eugene, Oregon July 20-24. In
addition to program training, the national conference offers sessions for
coaches, trainers and school & district leaders. See:
https://www.nifdi.org/training-events/national-di-conference-eugene.html.
I hope one of these events will meet the needs of anyone who is interested
in receiving the *most effective training in DI program delivery anywhere.*
If they don’t meet your needs, email NIFDI at info at nifdi.org and let us
know what type of training DI interests you!
