NIFDI is trying to spread the word about the need for schools that want to start implementing DI to make sure they placement test their students before school ends so they can determine the best starting points for each child at the start of the school year, order the correct materials, form instructional groups, and arrange for teachers to get trained in the DI methodology.  We also want to let potential school partners know the services that NIFDI can provide.

Have your students’ literacy gains been inconsistent?

Authentic Direct Instruction programs have a proven record of significantly improving students’ literacy skills. 50 studies on Direct Instruction implementations lasting two years or longer had an average effect size of 0.76–or what researchers deem “strongly effective”. And, according to the largest meta-analysis ever conducted on a single instructional approach, the longer you implement DI, the greater the effect.
