<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none">I have included readings and podcast for our second reading circle centered around Palestine-Israel.  I tried to keep these doable. Our first
 readings centered Palestinian voices and a focus on personal and systemic harms.  The second reading circle will focus on navigating multiple narratives within a social justice framework.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none">There is a danger in listening to and holding multiple narratives while not addressing the larger systemic oppression.  You will often see this
 referred to as the <i>dangers of normalization</i>, and it is a very real danger – the idea that just listening to multiple narratives is ‘sufficient’ means that those with power can avoid addressing the injustice while feeling good that ‘they tried.’  All
 paths forward must prioritize addressing the systemic oppression and injustice on the ground.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none">At the same time, 7 million Israelis and 7 million Palestinians aren’t going anywhere.  All need to find a way to share the land with equality,
 self-determination, and safety for all.  The only way to do this is to hear and see each other.  The only way to do this is to see each others’ stories and traumas (this doesn’t mean agreeing 100%– but understanding and acknowledging them as part of someone's
 historical narrative and identity).  And, the only way to do this is to build relationships and dialogue.  The groups that have had some of the most progress presenting possible solutions moving forward with this goal in mind are all groups that have done
 the hard work of building these relationships.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;mso-ligatures:none">Our focus for this reading circle is to hold these multiple narratives within a social justice framework.  So, with this in mind, I want to offer
 the following examples of doing so: One short article highlighting a history of trauma for both Jewish Israelis and Palestinians; two podcasts, both reflecting the current real, raw emotions/viewpoints of the conflict; and one interview with Palestinian and
 Israeli activists from Combatants for Peace. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
