<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We hope that you enjoyed the glorious Oregon summer (or wherever you happened to spend your summer days and nights). As students and faculty begin to return to town, the activity and energy around campus and HEDCO are palpable, it’s wonderful
to see many of you in the hallways and around campus this past week.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I am writing to share my understanding of what you should register for/expect in your EDUC courses this academic year, because it’s a bit confusing and has changed from prior years.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">First, all <u>incoming counseling psychology and prevention science doctoral students</u> and all
<u>incoming prevention science MS students</u> should enroll in the new EDUC series, which is called
<b>EDUC 610L Intro Data Analysis Ed</b> in DuckWeb for fall term. Note that you will also register for a discussion section. There will be 2 additional courses as part of this series that you will take in winter and spring term. In addition, you should register
for <b>EDUC 612 Social Sci Res Design </b>for fall.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Second, <u>incoming prevention science MEd students</u> will generally register for EDUC 612 this term (and, EDUC 614 winter term). However, if you are an incoming MEd student with strong statistical skills and aspirations, and/or goals
of pursuing a PhD, you may also wish to register for <b>EDUC 610L Intro Data Analysis Ed.</b> This is optional and not required.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Third, <u>incoming CFT students </u>will generally register for
<b>EDUC 611 Surv Educ Res Methods </b>for fall.<b> </b>There is an option to consider enrolling in
<b>EDUC 612 Social Sci Res Design </b>instead, if you are planning a career more focused on. Please check with the CFT program director if you are unsure.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Fourth, <u>second year prevention science students (PhD and MS)</u> and
<u>second year counseling psychology students</u> should complete your original EDUC sequence, and register
<b>for EDUC 642 (fall) and EDUC 644</b> (winter). The instructors (Dr. Zopluoglu for EDUC 642 and Dr. Harrison for EDUC 644) know that students may come with either R or SPSS experience, and both will be accommodated.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Finally, <u>any student who will be taking the new EDUC sequence (beginning with
<b>EDUC 610L Intro Data Analysis Ed </b>this fall) <b>AND</b> any student who has additional advanced stats courses to complete in your program plan (e.g., SEM or HLM),</u> should take the FREE <b>R Workshop</b> (<a href="https://community.uoregon.edu/courses/18778" title="https://community.uoregon.edu/courses/18778">LINK</a>)
created by College of Education professor Dr. Cengiz Zopluoglu. All incoming PhD and MS students should have received information about this yesterday, in an email from EDUC. If you did NOT receive this AND need to take the free R Workshop, please contact
