<p class="MsoNormal">On Sept. 11<sup>th</sup> 2001, I was visiting my parents in Milwaukee. I came down the stairs in the morning to find them standing- -staring, transfixed, at the small tv we had in the kitchen, watching the smoke in shock. Then we watched
the second plane hit the towers. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The events of this week and of these past months evoke a constant wave of similar feelings of shock, powerlessness, and anger about how many of these incidents could have been prevented, and how many of these currents could have been countered,
and so many lives preserved. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Attached is a short reflection by one of my favorite writers, the late Gloria Anzaldúa, in the aftermath of 9/11. Her struggle to comprehend the loss, and the structural causes behind it, and her ability to find a sense of agency and community
and meaning going forward, remains very compelling in today’s context. In her words, ‘Let us be the healing of the wound.’<o:p></o:p></p>
