for docsem. See note below. Docsem will not change as a class/advising meeting/research meeting, but you now need to register just for CPSY 601 research credits and NO LONGER register for CPSY 607. Ask your advisor what name to give the research credits each
term.</b><br>

reason for this is not to do away with Docsem at all. We will continue to hold Docsems as we have in the past. It has to do with how faculty teaching is being counted at the UO and the COE has so many small seminars that it looks like faculty teach very few
small seminars compared to the norm at UO. This would negatively affect our budget in future. </b></b></b></div>

<b>A note about “Docsem”:</b> <span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>The CPSY faculty has had a long tradition of holding weekly advising, training, and research meetings with our advisees called the “Doctoral Research Seminar” or “Docsem.” This has always
been a weekly meeting to connect with your advisor and other students in the program across all levels of training, receive and give advising, work on professional skills like getting feedback on your writing, and working on research projects with others,
supervised by your advisor. The docsem is not unique to our CPSY program, but it is not common and at UO we attempt to make these experiences fruitful ones for beginning and advanced students alike and a way to build and maintain a sense of community in our
program culture. The docsem guarantees consistent contact with your advisor. You should bring most of your advising needs to Docsem. Many CPSY doctoral students find the “docsem” to be one of the highlights of their training experience.<o:p> </o:p></p>

In the past, students used to register for the doctoral seminar as a “CPSY 607” number. We continue to offer the same Docsem (Friday mornings of every term) but you now need to register for “CPSY 601: Research” credits instead. Ask your specific advisor about
what to title the research credits. For my students, for instance, they would register for “CPSY 601: Research: Emerging Adults”.

mentoring for first year students. Would you please send to me the list of mentor-mentee matches between current students and incoming students? Given our challenges to keep connected this coming year, the more we share about this the easier it will be to
support you and incoming students to the program. </b></div>
