Dear Students,
I wish to express my gratitude to the CPSY students who recently requested that an "open session" be added to the next CPSY/CPHS faculty meeting. In support of this request, an "open session" has been added on Friday, May 24th from 10:00-10:30am, extending the normal faculty meeting time. This portion of the meeting will be held in HEDCO 146 to accommodate a larger gathering (which may include CFT students and faculty).
For those students and faculty who are unable to join in person, there is a Zoom option: https://uoregon.zoom.us/j/95810573529?pwd=ZkRWNG5TdzdVdHduSGZ0N1lXeEZhUT09 (Meeting ID: 958 1057 3529, Passcode: 607331)
This open session is meant to be an opportunity for students to voice their perspectives and requests for support directly to faculty, building on other student-led conversations in recent weeks that have raised questions regarding CPSY's and CPHS's:
* positions regarding the violence against Palestinians and Israelis, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
* responses to students as they witness and are impacted by this violence, the associated human suffering and profound loss of life, and, for some, a sense of loss of personal safety.
* positions regarding the encampment on UO's campus / policies concerning student participation in peaceful protest and other forms of activism in line with their values.
* responses within and outside of the classroom to this and other local, national, and global events in real-time, as these events unfold, in light of our community's expressed commitments to ameliorating (and preventing) human suffering, reducing inequities, disrupting systems of oppression, and fostering individual and community resilience and wellbeing.
We hope that this will be an opportunity for students to be (and feel) heard, for faculty to better understand students' needs and preferences, and for us to collectively create conditions that support ongoing dialogue (and subsequent actions) that will strengthen relationships and our community.
We look forward to hopefully seeing and hearing from many of you on Friday!
Best,
Jess

The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon, and they continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a Dreamer Ally, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals. I commit to not sharing your status with anyone if you reveal it to me, but I also remind you that when interacting with faculty, staff, and offices around campus you are never required to reveal your immigration status.
