cpsylist: Lorry I. Lokey Science Award - applications due April 8

Hello current CPSY students,

I am writing to inform you of an opportunity to apply to the Lorry I. Lokey Science Award. CPHS will be awarded up to 4 awards of $3000/student. Current 1st – 3rd year PREV PhD students and current 1st – 4th year CPSY doctoral students who are not a current recipient of a Lokey ISI recruitment support award are eligible to apply.

If you would like to be considered for this award, read the evaluation criteria below and submit your application materials by April 8th at 5pm to the academic program coordinator (cpsy at uoregon.edu<mailto:cpsy at uoregon.edu>). Please submit all materials in a single pdf file via email and include your name in the file name. Decisions will be made before the end of the AY 23-24 academic year.

Application Materials:

1.       Your name, PhD program, and UO ID

2.       An essay (no more that 500 words) addressing the evaluation criteria below (items 1-6 below), that includes a discussion of your current program of research and how this funding would facilitate your academic success and support your career objectives

3.       Your current CV

4.       Your unofficial UO transcripts

Evaluation Criteria:

  1.  Student adds diverse perspectives to the COE student body through their racial, ethnic, cultural, international, geographic, educational, or first-generation status, or through some other element of identity that has been historically marginalized or underrepresented in higher education
  2.  Student’s scholarship fits into the NSF science and engineering discipline categories<https://www.nsf.gov/about/research_areas.jsp>
  3.  Student demonstrates social, behavioral, or other biological or STEM research excellence
  4.  Student demonstrates strong academic performance
  5.  There is a needs basis for this award (this is determined by the University of Oregon through the FAFSA, the ORSAA, or an International Student Financial Resources form.   6.  The award would support financial needs and/or the provision of academic supports to help a student excel in their doctoral program
