Subject: cpsylist: Another successful CPSY dissertation defense - congratulations to Reid Thompson Cañas!
Hello CPSY community,
It is an honor and privilege to share news of the successful oral defense of their dissertation today by Reid Thompson Cañas!
For those of you who may not know, Reid worked with Bertranna Muruthi for the first few years in their CPSY degree program at UO. During that time, Reid initiated a new, theoretically driven study that focused on psychological well-being of LGBT+ individuals in El Salvador—that involved student-led data collection in an international context during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic (2021). This work culminated in the successful completion of their dissertation and dissertation defense, earlier today. Wow—this is a REALLY impressive undertaking for anyone, let alone a graduate student.
In addition to Bertranna, Reid’s committee included Drs. Jessica Cronce, Geovanna Rodriguez, and me. The oral defense was attended by both in-person and Zoom friends, cohort members, and family, many of whom are shown here in the post-defense photo. A fantastic showing of community support for this important milestone, congratulations Reid!
