Subject: Fwd: [DIV17DISCUSS] Upcoming webinar: Reparations in Counseling Psychology: A Call to Action
Hi!
Can you please send this to the CPSY listserv? This webinar has been organized and is being hosted by a Division 17 Everyday Reparations Working Group that I've been a part of for the past 2 years. I think I might help out with the introductory slides on reparations but the majority of the webinar will be a panel of prominent Black counseling psychologists talking about reparations specific to counseling psychology and will end with breakout rooms to discuss action plans. I'd love to see some students and faculty members there!!
Thank you,
Maureen

Subject: [DIV17DISCUSS] Upcoming webinar: Reparations in Counseling Psychology: A Call to Action
Dear SCP Family,
I am pleased to announce an important upcoming SCP webinar entitled, Reparations in Counseling Psychology: A Call to Action<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMudemtrzopHdG10T5r5nwVxnxXhL39nuH___;!!C5qS4YX3!FqfKOI4ZeeLABQC7McHCOXANOFmfOw25oNWV17Kf99g80kILyUsEWWlx4_m-Azp1PjR7v86DnXNL0c0fVq9A$>. This webinar grows out of a working group, Counseling Psychologists in Everyday Reparations that was developed in 2020 as part of Anneliese Singh's presidential initiative on Liberation and whose goal was educating the SCP community on reparations and what that means for counseling psychology. We have offered programs at APA and engaged in a variety of other efforts. As we wrap up our important work, we want to engage SCP members more actively in this dialogue through a webinar.
We are in a critical time when talking about combatting racism is not enough. We need action. And that includes thinking in new and expansive ways about how to disrupt racism in our profession, address the long-standing harms caused by racism within counseling psychology, and identify ways to level the playing field.
As we conceptualized this webinar, we knew early on we wanted to build on the the Big Ideas in Counseling Psychology: Uprooting Anti-Blackness<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y0y2j59vi8&t=2s__;!!C5qS4YX3!FqfKOI4ZeeLABQC7McHCOXANOFmfOw25oNWV17Kf99g80kILyUsEWWlx4_m-Azp1PjR7v86DnXNL0cHLZ74Q$> program from the 2021 APA Convention, which was part of Mary O'Leary Wiley's presidential initiatives. This webinar, while not focused on reparations, addressed many of the same issues but many SCP members did not view that program because they did not attend virtual APA. We want to build on that amazing program and cultivate an even stronger connection to reparations and what that means in a professional context. What should counseling psychologists be doing to stop the harm and offer reparations for the ways we have and continue to contribute to anti-black racism and white supremacy within our profession?
So, we have invited the amazing counseling psychologists from the Big Ideas program (Helen Neville, Janet Helms, Carlton Green, Della Mosley) and then added a student (one of our best and brightest, Terrill Taylor) for an exciting panel discussion on this critical topic.
Join us on Tuesday May 24th from 6-7:30 pm for a profoundly important conversation about how Counseling Psychology can move closer to living our values and enacting our dreams.
