Subject: cpsylist: New externship opportunity

New Externship Opportunity: Serenity Lane (Coburg Campus)

Available starting this summer, 10 (minimum) to 20 hours a week. Preferred length of commitment, at least one year. In person/on site required. Up to 3 positions.
Hours: Between 8-5 initially, with possible evenings and weekend hours after orientation is complete and depending on student schedule and interest.
Note: Students may pursue this opportunity as an unpaid externship for academic credit, OR as a paid experience ($20.00 per hour) for which program sanction is requested.
Supervisor: Dr. Cheryl Gifford, Ph.D., licensed psychologist. Dr. Gifford has previously supervised Counseling Psychology doctoral students at VIM and at the Jail. She enjoys working with our students and provides high quality supervision.
Modalities of intervention used at this site: Motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, Refuge Recovery (Buddhist model), medically assisted treatment, 12-step programs, and a variety of other evidence-based treatments.  Crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, mental health assessments, consultation with the treatment team, and family therapy are all provided by MH staff.
Externs can attend daily integrated care staffings (physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, other mental health staff) that include case presentations.
Clientele: Serenity Lane has expanded from clients with insurance to inclusion of people with Medicaid, now serving a broader segment of the population. Approximately 70% of clients have co-occurring disorders.
The Coburg campus has an accredited 20 bed detox hospital, and a 90 bed residential treatment facility.  Serenity Lane has an additional 7 outpatient clinics around the State of Oregon.
