Dear Students,
Our newly named HEDCO "Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment Clinic" is starting to accept applications for the 2020-2021 externship experience, which will be supervised by Dr. Karrie Walters.
Description: The clinic currently focuses on comprehensive diagnosis for ADHD and LD. We work with all ages, with about 40% of our clients under the age of 18, 40% college students, and 20% adult community members. "Full time" at the clinic is about 10 hours a week, but there are some part-time options. There is weekly small group supervision, as well as individual supervision for the differential diagnosis of each client. Students record all sessions (and are live observed for their first clients). Dr. Walters continuously watches tapes, gives students feedback, helps edit reports, etc. - so students have plenty of support while still taking the majority of responsibility for their clients.
This experience also includes weekly two hour didactic training in fall for training purposes. It is a 3-term experience. Dr. Walters would like to start some of the clinic training this spring so that students can start seeing clients earlier in fall of 2020. The spring training will include some didactic training as well as following some cases in the clinic to learn the process and expectations.
Qualifications: Completion of both assessment courses by fall of 2020; time in your schedule to meet the demands of your GE, coursework, research, etc.; and as for any externship, you must have completed your SAP and passed adult practicum. Discuss with your advisor if you have any questions about whether or not to make this commitment.
What to do: Send an updated CV and a summary of your assessment experience to Dr. Walters by the end of February, and by Feb 21st if you want to participate in the spring training.
Best,
Ellen
