Dear CPSY students:
As the details of Jacob Blake's shooting continue to reach us, I wanted to say that we see you, stand with you, and act with you. Words seem so trite when we bear witness to this level of repeated horror and pain, but we will continue to bear witness, not turn away or tune out, and to push forward to act.
For those who may not be aware, the following UO website<https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/> focuses on Black Lives Matter and other activism information. In hopes of acknowledging the values, gifts, and lessons that so many disciplines, especially psychology, have failed to learn from our Black communities, Dr. Yvette Alex-Assensoh, UO VP for Equity and Inclusion, will teach fall term a 1-credit class<https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/sites/inclusion1.uoregon.edu/files/9_20_yaa_black_resilience.pdf> that explores the strengths, resilience, and resistance of U.S. Black communities.
Please share this information with your colleagues, especially, those who need a space for this kind of education and to be affirmed and valued. And, if there is space, I hope that you will share this information with those whose activism could grow with such an education.
Thank you,
Krista
