Dear CPSY students,
We have received your letter of 4.7.20. Faculty are in discussion and will respond more fully after we have a chance to discuss further. There is one point on which we offer this immediate response.

All students are required to withdraw from all externship and clinical services activities for spring of 2020 that involve in person client contact. Faculty will consider requests for exceptions from the perspective of student and client safety. If you can continue your clinical work via telehealth methods, please consider doing so for the sake of our professional and ethical commitments to client care. No student is required to continue in your externship placement. If you cannot continue your clinical work due to in person requirements, or if doing so is not in your own best interest or that of your clients, please communicate immediately with your sites to plan for closing with your clients and ending your time at the agency. As always we encourage you to consult and seek support as needed in your decision making.

We will be working on the process of GE assignments over the next few months. This process is delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, there is no new information at this time. The hiring freeze may impact our strategic alliance positions, but will not impact positions within our department. You should have received an email this week asking you to respond to a survey about GE’s in our department. Please respond as soon as possible. Keep in mind that our priority is to fund students who are in their 4thyear or lower. We will let you know about any new developments.

Beth

Subject: SALA request for insight regarding student concerns

Hi Beth, Ellen, & Benedict!

We hope week two of the weirdest term there ever was is treating you all well! This is a strange time for all involved and we’re all figuring out how to navigate it as the term progresses.

Yahaira and I, as the SALA co-facilitators this year, have received feedback from members of our student body that we wanted to share with you. As you can imagine, much of it has to do with the rapidly changing circumstances precipitated by COVID-19 and the subsequent implications on coursework, grading, and externship experiences. The students have collaborated on a letter to the faculty (attached here) and are hoping to hear from you by Monday, April 13th so that we can collectively move forward with course, grading, and externship planning.

Thank you for your time and attention – we know that both are in short supply these days and we appreciate the extra effort!

Warm regards,

Samantha & Yahaira
