Are you ready to write a manuscript for publication? Are you finishing up analyses and looking for a structured, supportive space to write up your study? Do you want to hear from COE faculty about their writing processes? If so, consider enrolling in:
EDLD 659 Scholarly Writing – Wednesdays, 1:00-3:50pm, 3 credits, taught by Dr. Ilana Umansky
This course is designed for advanced doctoral students (generally 3rd year and beyond) in any department who are at the point of preparing, or starting to prepare, a manuscript for professional publication. The primary product of the course will be a full manuscript that will be submitted for publication. Each week, we will discuss a critical aspect of academic writing and publication and students will draft one section of their manuscript, which they then have the opportunity to receive peer and instructor feedback on. Over the course of the term, faculty will visit to discuss their respective careers, writing practices, and publication strategies.
Before starting the course, prospective students must have a clear idea for a publication. In most cases students should have a dataset they have analyzed, or will analyze, for the manuscript.
This is a great class to take if you are an advanced PhD student looking for a structured, supportive environment in which to draft a complete manuscript for publication.
