I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a member of the UO Dreamers Working Group, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals. For more information and resources please visit our Dreamers page (https://blogs.uoregon.edu/dreamers/) and the Immigration FAQs page (http://international.uoregon.edu/immigration_faq ). Remember, when interacting with faculty, staff, and offices around campus you are never required to reveal your status.

Fall 2019 Graduate Student Writing Workshops
Both workshops take place in Condon 260 from 12-1 p.m. To register, click on the links below.
November 6: Making Your Argument
What are the qualities of a great academic argument (or thesis)? What's the difference between your research question and your argument? What are some strategies you can use for defining your argument? And how do you know if you're communicating it clearly to your readers? Dr. Johanna Seasonwein, a professional editor and former university instructor, will lead this hands-on workshop on how to define your research question, how to uncover your argument, and how to communicate that argument clearly to your audience. Please bring something you are currently working on or have written for an academic audience to workshop with your peers.
Register here<https://calendar.uoregon.edu/event/graduate_student_writing_workshop_making_your_argument>.
November 20: Writing with Style
Good writers can write a grammatically correct sentence, but great writers craft their phrases with style and an authentic voice. Dr. Johanna Seasonwein, a professional editor and former university instructor, will share tips for writing interesting, engaging prose for an academic audience. We will talk about our reading audience and why it's important to write with them in mind. We will discuss the twin demons of academic writing-the passive voice and jargon-and why they are to be avoided at (almost) all costs. And we will practice editing sample texts for as a way to refine our own writing skills.
