Dear Colleagues,

Learning professional writing inherently involves acculturation to the profession and the expectations of training programs, universities, and professional journals and other outlets. In the context of research and writing projects in graduate professional training, students are exposed to the theoretical and research literature of the profession, they make sense of what the literature has to offer in terms of influencing their thinking about the topics that interest them, and they communicate their ideas in their unique ways, guided by their training.

In this study, we’d like to hear from students and faculty about critical factors, incidents, or advisor/mentor and student behaviors that influence professional writing training. We are particularly interested in how student and faculty identities, backgrounds, and worldviews influence the process.

Responding to our open-ended questions should take about 10-15 minutes of your time—or longer, if you have more stories/ideas that you would like to share. 😊
