Subject: Intern/Extern/Volunteer possibility

Dear Benedict and Beth,

I hope your summers are off to a great start! I wanted to let you know about an intern/extern/volunteer possibility that I thought some of the counseling psych students might be interested in.

Over the next two years, I will be working with Pathfinders (a Portland-based agency who works with corrections-involved individuals) to launch a parent-child visitation program in two prisons in Oregon (Coffee Creek and Santiam). The intervention will work with incarcerated parents on skills related to effective communication (e.g., emotional regulation, effective listening and speaking), nurturing their child (e.g., connecting through play and reading, emotion coaching), and child individuality (development, understanding child temperament, using encouragement). The project will involve 2-hours of coaching/skill practicing as a group, a 60 minute 1-on-1 time with the "coach", a 2-hour coached visit with their child, and a 2-hour debrief session. The students could assist with any or all of the components. Pathfinders will be contracting with Mark Eddy (Licensed Psychologist) to provide clinical supervision to any interested students.

I thought this project might be of interest to students and provide some valuable learning opportunities. Would it be possible to set this up as an intern, extern, or volunteer opportunity for CPSY students? Thank you for any ideas!

Best,

Jean
