Shirin Ebadi
April 7-9, 2018
Shirin Ebadi was the first woman ever to hold the office of Judge in Iran, but when the Ayatollahs took over in 1978 and prohibited women from serving in public office, she was demoted to a clerk. While many of her academic friends fled the country, she remained, working tirelessly for the rights of women and young people. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for her work, becoming the first Muslim woman to win the prize. She will be joining us at the University of Oregon for a public talk on Friday, April 7, and leading our two-day PeaceJam Youth Conference<https://uoregon.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a7ab2a2349fb5e2f7ce1a617d&id=af4a69ca96&e=0b933038ac> April 8-9th.
