Dear Student Colleagues,
This email is for those applying to internship this fall, but you may wish to save this email for future reference. This email details information that will assist you in getting information where it needs to be, on time, and in the appropriate form. Read it very carefully before asking questions that are answered within! Have a great day,

Instructions & Details for Fall 2018 Internship Applicants
1. The APPIC portal typically opens in July with materials that are updated for the current year. http://www.appic.org
2. Our APPIC program associate # is 444. List Elizabeth Skowron as “DCT” or director of clinical training. Be alert for emails from Dr. Skowron regarding internship applications.
3. To complete your applications ON TIME, you have to initiate a process that informs APPIC that Elizabeth is your DCT and give them name & contact info for your letter writers- by Sept 15th at the LATEST. That will generate an email to Elizabeth and your letter writers that gives them access to the portal by which we submit letters as well as the DCT verification portal that (ultimately) allows you to apply.
4. The DCT must verify the documentation of your clinical hours that you are claiming for internship. To do so, you must submit to the DCT your completed APPI form AND the form on our website – with your signature as instructed- called CPSY Internship Application Summary of Hours located here: https://education.uoregon.edu/counseling-psychology/cpsy-uploads. This program form allows the DCT to connect your APPI information with the contents of your practicum file (prac hours, externship hours, program sanctioned hours). Please note that in the APPI when you list your clinical hours/experiences, you are instructed to list those up to Nov 1st. This means that your estimates that you send to the DCT are going to include hours you have not yet earned. That is ok. You just need to explain that to the DCT in a note that accompanies your materials. From the APPIC application form: “Only include practicum experience accrued up to November 1 of the year in which you are applying for internship. You may describe the practicum experience that you anticipate accruing after November 1 in the section, “Summary of Doctoral Training.”
5. Here is a SUMMARY OF ALL MATERIALS DUE TO YOUR ADVISOR and YOUR DCT BY SEPTEMBER 15TH, ELECTRONICALLY, IN ONE EMAIL. For each document name the file as follows: Yourlastname.nameofdocument.date. Do not send multiple emails with different pieces of information. Do not send documents called “CV.doc”
A) A complete list of APA-accredited sites to which you are applying, in electronic form, that includes names and contact information for each site, deadlines, information about the site that you want letter-writers to know (e.g., “child/family site” or “emphasis on multicultural competencies”) and the type of site it is (community based mental health, hospital, VA, prison, university counseling center, etc.). You may identify additional sites after Sept 15 and can send an updated list of sites to your advisor and DCT.
B) A copy of your APPI form documenting your clinical experiences and hours you are claiming, and a completed “Internship Application Summary of Hours” form (see Current Students website under Internship Application forms).-- along with an explanation of those hours that is just for your DCT-- as needed. (SEE #4 ABOVE)
C) A list of your own strengths and growth areas that you will be sharing with your internship sites. Consult with your advisor about these before you submit them to the DCT. Saying “not as much assessment experience as I would have wanted” is something to identify as a training goal but is not really a growth area- be sure to give growth areas that are actually about weaknesses/challenges you are working on.
D) An electronic copy of the Standardized Reference Form-Revised in which you have added all the relevant information and provided details in each section related to that content area. (SEE MY COMMENTS ON THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT CALLED SRF revised 3.31.16 w notes.)
E) Your updated CV
F) Drafts of your internship essays.
For letter writers who are NOT your advisor or DCT, you may or may not want to give them these same things. Be sure they know there is a standardized reference form so they don’t waste time writing a letter that has to be changed to fit the format and content now required.
Finally, here is a copy of Shoshana’s message to you on May 1, 2018:
Hi, everyone. If you're pretty sure you'll be applying for internship in the fall, here are a few items for your to-do list:
* Send me, your chair (and the person covering for your chair next year, as your chair recommends) and Ellen a note letting us know you're considering applying.
* Talk with your chair to determine whether you're in good shape and what you will still need to do in order to be eligible to apply this fall.
* See the outline and pick up the forms I distributed at yesterday's meeting if you couldn't attend.
* Ask successful applicants in your doc sem for advice, strategies, and examples.
* Look at http://www.appic.org and http://www.asppb.org and start getting your hours in shape.
* Look at the AAPI (internship application) and Directory (not yet updated for 18-19) and start fantasizing.
* Plan to finish internship readiness requirements between now and September, including scheduling your dissertation proposal defense.
* Fill in desirable activities (like more testing experience) as you're able.
* Update your CV.
* Consider your letter writers and check whether they are able to write you a strong letter.
* Start saving for travel, interview clothes, etc.
* Come see me if you'd like to talk! (Note from Ellen: This was sent in May so if you want to talk to Shoshana you should find her in September when faculty are back on contract!)
Shoshana
