I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a member of the UO Dreamers Working Group, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals. For more information and resources please visit our Dreamers page (https://blogs.uoregon.edu/dreamers/) and the Immigration FAQs page (http://international.uoregon.edu/immigration_faq ). Remember, when interacting with faculty, staff, and offices around campus you are never required to reveal your status.

Subject: [NLPA Members] NLPA Student Travel Scholarships

Saludos NLPA Familia,

Since everyone has by now received news about whether or not proposals submitted were accepted for presentation at the conference, I wanted to send you reminder about this year’s travel scholarships. If you know students who plan to attend the conference (regardless of whether or not they will be presenting), please feel free to encourage them to apply for the scholarship, the application for which you will find attached to this e-mail, and which is posted on our website under the Student Resources section.

As your students think about the cost of attending our conference, I wanted to provide some information for them to keep in mind. Scholarships will be in the amount of $300, the cost of the regular registration for student members. However, scholarships will not be distributed until the conference, therefore, they can think of it as a sort of “reimbursement” for the registration cost. As such, if they are committed to attending the conference, I would strongly encourage them to register, a requirement of eligibility, as soon as possible (remember, early registration ends July 14, 2018). While the goal is to have decisions announced by September 3, 2018, prior to the end date of regular registration, this cannot be guaranteed. Please ask them to keep this information in mind as they make their travel arrangements and decisions about attending the conference.

To receive the scholarship, recipients are required to: 1) be current members of NLPA no later than September 10, 2018; 2) register for and attend the conference; 3) give back to the organization by donating two hours of their time during the conference; and 4) attend the Leadership Academy. The special Leadership Academy will be conducted by two prominent figures in Latina/o Psychology and will take place during the conference. While this presentation is open to all student attendees, it will be required for scholarship recipients, as this is where the checks will be distributed. The only exception that will be made to this is if recipients are listed on the conference program as having a presentation at the same time.

Please encourage your students to note the deadline for the application and be sure to follow the directions listed on the application. Out of fairness to their fellow student member applicants, late/incomplete applications and those not received in the appropriate e-mail account will not be reviewed.

If you or they have any questions about the application process, please feel free to contact me at vminchala at fullerton.edu<mailto:vminchala at fullerton.edu>.

Sincerely,

Valerie
