Subject: In Solidarity With The Muslim Community During “Punish A Muslim Day”

Hi Shoshana,

I hope you had a fantastic break! Anyways, I apologize for the short
notice but I am reaching out to you because as you may be aware, in many
European countries, there is a “Punish A Muslim Day” coming up this
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018. In short, there are point values for different
acts of aggression: ten points for “verbally abusing a Muslim,” 50
points for “ throwing acid in the face of a Muslim,” to 1000 points for
“burning or bombing a mosque.” Therefore, we, the Muslim students at
the University of Oregon are hosting a counter-demonstration in
solidarity with our brothers and sisters who reside in the nations
participating in this sick game. By simply being present and visible we
can provide a safe space for those who may feel targeted on a day like
this. Our visibility will swiftly and firmly signal our opposition to
xenophobia and Islamophobia!! With that, I am reaching out to you as a
professor to ask you to send a mass email to your students, department,
and staff about this day. We believe that bringing awareness about this
day will allow Muslim individuals to make a decision about their safety,
be conscious of any increased threat to their persons, and to attend our
demonstration to learn about the different organizations that are here
for them. We also think spreading awareness will allow our allies to
stand in solidarity with us by being a buddy to their friends by walking
with them to their destinations and not tolerating xenophobia and
Islamophobia.

I have attached our counter-demonstration flier and UO Campus Shuttle
