Subject: Opportunity for students in bilingual assessment and communications disorders
Dear Colleagues,
Please read the announcement below. This is a great opportunity for students who may want to earn a graduate degree in Communication Disorders oriented to bilingual assessment and bilingual language development. Share with your students if appropriated.
Best,
Gabriela
Dr. Lillian Durán from the Special Education Department and Dr. Lauren Cycyk from Communication Disorders were awarded an Office of Special Education training grant focused on training early interventionists and speech and language pathologists on bilingual assessment, intervention and bilingual language development. The grant is titled, "Interdisciplinary Interventionists and Clinicians Improving Outcomes (INICIO)" and over 5 years will pay for graduate tuition for forty–two Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) students at the University of Oregon to serve dual language learners (DLLs) from birth through age 5 with disabilities. The program includes the ECSE one-year licensure and MA degree program and the Communication Disorders two-year certification and MA degree program. We would like to spread the word to our CLLAS colleagues and for you to share this information with students who may be interested in going into the fields of special education or speech and language pathology. Please e-mail Lillian Duranlduran at uoregon.edu or Lauren Cycyk lcycyk at uoregon.edu if you have any questions or would like more information. Preference is given to bilingual and bicultural students.
