Subject: MATCH NEWS: IMPORTANT eligibility information for the 2018 APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service
APPIC MATCH NEWS
---
This e-mail contains important information about student eligibility for participation in the 2018 APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service for placement into internship positions for the 2018-19 training year.
PLEASE NOTE that important changes have recently been implemented regarding eligibility of students from non-accredited doctoral programs (see "Students who are Enrolled in Other Doctoral Programs", below).
STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED IN ACCREDITED DOCTORAL PROGRAMS:
Students are eligible to participate in the 2018 APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service IF their doctoral program is accredited by an eligible accrediting organization (currently APA or CPA; please see below for details), has been accepted by APPIC as a "Doctoral Program Associate" (DPA), and has paid the appropriate DPA fees. The payment of DPA fees by the doctoral program is now required for its students to be eligible. Please note that any APA or CPA status that denotes the doctoral program as accredited (e.g., "Accredited, Inactive") is acceptable.
STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED IN NON-ACCREDITED DOCTORAL PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR AN ACCREDITATION SITE VISIT:
Students are eligible to participate in the 2018 APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service IF their doctoral program has provided appropriate documentation to APPIC verifying approval for a site visit by an eligible accrediting organization (currently APA or CPA; please see below for details), has been accepted by APPIC as a "Doctoral Program Associate" (DPA), and has paid the appropriate DPA fees. The payment of DPA fees by the doctoral program is now required for its students to be eligible.
STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED IN OTHER DOCTORAL PROGRAMS:
Students who attend doctoral programs that do not meet the criteria described above are NOT eligible to participate in either Phase of the 2018 APPIC Match. However, while it was previously announced that these students would also be ineligible to participate in the 2018 APPIC Post-Match Vacancy Service (PMVS), the APPIC Board of Directors recently made a one-year, one-time exception that will allow some of these students to participate in the 2018 PMVS as outlined below.
"PMVS-only" participation will be permitted for students from doctoral programs that meet the criteria outlined in paragraphs 1a-1c of APPIC's Policy on Doctoral Program Associates (http://www.appic.org/AboutAPPIC/APPICPolicies/DPAPolicy.aspx) and are approved by APPIC. Programs approved by APPIC under these criteria will not be accepted as a "Doctoral Program Associate" (DPA); however, students from these programs will be eligible to participate in the 2018 PMVS (but not the Match). Details regarding the participation of these students in the PMVS, including timing and fees, are still being discussed and will be announced at a later date.
Please note that the above policies apply to both U.S. and Canadian doctoral programs.
A list of doctoral programs and the eligibility of their students is now posted on the Matching Program web site (natmatch.com/psychint<http://natmatch.com/psychint>) under "Eligible Doctoral Programs." This list includes those programs whose students are (a) eligible for the APPIC Match and PMVS, and (b) eligible for the PMVS only.
Students who are enrolled in re-specialization programs (i.e., individuals who already hold a doctoral degree in another area of psychology and who are seeking to change to a professional specialty for which they were not originally prepared) should review the APPIC "Doctoral Program Associate" and "Intern Applicant" policies, linked below, for eligibility information.

NOTE: An "eligible accrediting organization" is one that accredits doctoral programs in Health Service Psychology and/or Professional Psychology and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for programs located in the U.S. or by the Canadian equivalent (where one exists) for programs located in Canada. The accrediting organizations that currently meet these criteria are the American Psychological Association (APA) Commission on Accreditation and the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Accreditation Panel.
