Friday, January 13th, 12:00 - 1:30pm in 111 Susan Campbell Hall (Graduate Student Center)

The Graduate School will be offering its annual Funding and Awards Workshop for graduate students where we discuss the details of Graduate School Awards, the awards application process, application tips, and external funding opportunities. BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME TEACHING PANEL
Finding Optimal Discomfort for Maximal Learning: Teaching Race and Other Difficult Topics

Thursday, January 26th, 3:00 - 4:30 in the EMU Lease Crutcher Lewis Room (#023)

Graduate students are invited to our "Between the World and Me" teaching panel on Thursday, January 26th at 3:00 pm with guests Kathryn Oleson of Reed College (Professor of Psychology), Jessica Vasquez-Tokos (Associate Professor of Sociology), and Celena Simpson (PhD student, Philosophy). Inspired by Ta-Nehisi Coates' visit to UO in February and the adoption of his Between the World and Me as the UO Common Reading (and as a book used in many courses this year), this panel will address teaching race and other difficult topics. Hear from instructors who have identified strategies that keep students engaged when material creates discomfort and discord, with the goal of achieving broader perspectives and greater learning.

RSVP for the Teaching Panel here<https://gradschool.uoregon.edu/rsvp#overlay-context=rsvp>.
