Benefits of the Position:
The TPN Co-Chair is a voluntary, uncompensated service position. Serving as a TPN Co-Chair offers unique professional development opportunities, including national level leadership, and project management experience, opportunities to receive individualized mentoring from experts in trauma psychology, and networking with APA Division 56 leadership.
About The Co-Chair Position:
The Co-Chair is responsible for the management of the subcommittee, and the facilitation of subcommittee activities, including the recruitment, selection and editorial process for publication of student article submissions in the “Student Spotlight” section of the division newsletter, Trauma Psychology News (TPN), which occurs three times per year.
Responsibilities:
- Managing a Division 56 Trauma Psychology student subcommittee
- Reaching out to fellow students who you think might be interested in writing an article and broadcasting calls for submissions to national and departmental listservs
- Reviewing and editing abstracts and article submissions in keeping with publication deadlines, while helping foster student authors through the publication process
- Helping to identify relevant topics for newsletter publication
- Working closely with the associate editor in order to ensure quality of the final product
Position Start Date and Time Commitment:
The Co-Chair position is a two-year commitment, officially beginning on August 1, 2017. There is an orientation and training period, which occurs after selection to the position through official start date. After selection, the Co-Chair elect will receive developmentally appropriate mentorship for the position, with opportunities to shadow and take on the various tasks involved in chairing the TPN committee under the guidance of the current Chairs. The Co-Chair elect will fully transition to the Co-Chair position by August 2017 for a two-year appointment. Position time commitment is typically 5 - 8 hours per month, and occasional additional hours during member recruitment or when a full call for abstracts/articles are needed.
Application Requirements:
Applicants should expect to hold graduate psychology student and/or trainee (internship and/or postdoctoral trainees permitted) status during the two-year service term. Affiliate membership for APA and Division 56 Trauma Psychology are required prior to start date.
