*Mood and Anxiety Program Postdoctoral Fellowship *
*at Seattle Children's and the University of Washington School of Medicine*
*2018-2019 Academic Year*
The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine
at Seattle Children's Hospital, in association with the University of
Washington School of Medicine, seeks applicants interested in
opportunities to specialize in Clinical Child and Adolescent Mood and
Anxiety Psychotherapy Research and Practice (MAP). The one-year MAP
Fellow position will be *50% research time and 50% outpatient clinical
activities* focused on *prevention and intervention of adolescent mental
health problems, with emphasis on depression, emotion regulation, and
self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. *
The successful applicants will work closely with one or more faculty in
the School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s who will serve as mentors
on current and recently completed federally and foundation funded
research projects. Examples of these projects include: the development
and testing of teacher trainings to enhance teachers’ ability to deliver
effective social-emotional learning (SEL) curricula in the context of
high school health classes; designing implementation strategies to
support the uptake and sustained use of emotional and behavioral skill
training among teachers; augmentation of suicide-specific treatment
strategies for adolescents who do not respond to treatment; analysis of
cohort study data to address research questions about biological markers
and self- and other-reported self-regulation, adolescent mental health,
and young adult functioning. In addition to mentorship from faculty who
serve as PIs on research projects, fellows will engage in extensive
scholarly writing, secondary data analysis, and development and
execution of their own independent research projects as well as
participate in coursework and clinical training relevant to the MAP
mission and consistent with the fellow’s interests and individualized plan.
Competitive applicants have interest and experience in research focused
on: (1) effective strategies for implementing evidence-based care across
various settings including clinics and schools; and/or (2) enhancing
treatment response to interventions for child psychopathology (e.g.,
via routine outcomes monitoring, data-driven decision support, treatment
pathway development), with particular focus on prevention and
intervention for depression and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Clinical activities include psychological consultation and treatment for
children, adolescents, and young adults with acute or chronic medical
and/or psychiatric conditions. Specific clinical services to be provided
include appropriate consultation, diagnostic assessment and follow-up
management of depression, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, emotional
problems, coping with physical illnesses, psychoeducation for youth and
their families, and managing/facilitating case transfers from acute care
to the community or to intensive psychiatry treatment programs.
Treatment interventions delivered include Behavioral Activation,
Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality, and Dialectical
Behavior Therapy.
*Requirements*: Candidates must have completed a doctoral degree in child
clinical psychology from an accredited APA program, and an APA
accredited predoctoral internship working with children/adolescents.
Applicants with longitudinal/multi-level data analysis skills are
strongly preferred. Stipend is commensurate to the NIH salary range for
postdoctoral fellows along with full medical and dental benefits.
*Applications are due by February 15, 2018, though we will review
immediately and continue through 2/15. Start date in July or August 2018. *
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a letter outlining
their areas of interest and training experiences, graduate transcript,
two letters of recommendation, and two writing samples (academic papers
or conference abstracts) to: Dr. Molly Adrian, PhD, at adriam at uw.edu
