Subject: [COR] From the Interim CEO - Congressional Briefing Tomorrow
I want to alert you to a congressional briefing that you can view online tomorrow, Nov. 15, from 1-2:30pm EST. It will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/4QPL27C-uY0 and archived for later viewing. The topic is race relations, implicit bias and community policing. Experts will discuss research on the effect of racial profiling as well as psychologists' roles in developing effective community policing practices. The speakers are:
* Phillip Atiba Goff, PhD, president and co-founder of the Center for Policing Equity and inaugural Franklin A. Thomas professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
* Ellen Scrivner, PhD, a psychologist consultant specializing in public safety innovations and transformative practices.
* Erlanger Turner, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Houston and an expert on child mental health and health disparities.
APA supports legislative efforts to improve police-community relations and advocates for funding for Justice Department programs aimed at reducing violence and increasing trust between law enforcement and communities of color. The briefing is a collaboration with Reps. Doug Collins, R-Ga.; Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations; Robin Kelly, D-Ill.; and Bobby Scott, D-Va.
