Dear OPA Colleagues:

The Oregon Psychological Association Board of Directors and Diversity
Committee would like to offer our condolences to the Orlando community,
especially the members and families of the LGBTQ community and their
allies for the unbelievable trauma and loss experienced on Sunday, June
12th. Like so many others around the world, we've struggled to determine
what to think, feel, and do in response to the heinous and terrifying
actions of one man. All of us feel the reverberations of pain, sadness,
grief, and determination to create some kind of value out of so much
devastation. However, we know those of us who are members of the LGBTQ
community, who already know the experience of feeling unsafe and unseen,
are particularly impacted by this event. The OPA Diversity Committee
and Board of Directors wishes to reiterate our determination to advocate
for culturally relevant and culturally responsive psychological research
and practice, but more than that we wish to stand with and beside the
LGBTQ community as one of countless safe and loving spaces and
communities for LGBTQ individuals. The profound path toward healing
lies before us all, but we understand and believe in the tremendous
capacity of a community which has always tenaciously overcome adversity
and persecution.

Sincerely,

Oregon Psychological Association Board of Directors and Diversity
Committee
