Two awards of $500 each are distributed annually: one to first-time lab or discussion section leaders and one to first-time sole instructors. The award honors BOTH excellent teaching and reflective practice. To win it, GTFs must attend the teaching development workshops or conversations within TEP or other departments/units, complete a midterm evaluation, and write a teaching philosophy statement. The Kimble First Year Teaching Award, named in honor of professor emeritus Dan Kimble, is jointly sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Graduate School, and the Division of Undergraduate Studies, and administered by the Teaching Effectiveness Program (link is external)<http://tlc.uoregon.edu/tep/> (TEP). This award is designed to recognize outstanding teaching performances by graduate teaching fellows (GTFs) leading a discussion section or lab in the first year of teaching, or as the sole instructor for a course in the first year of teaching, while maintaining a strong academic record.
