Hello and happy end of fall term!
We (the 2017 Leona Tyler Lecture Committee: Nicole Giuliani from School Psychology, Nichole Kelly from Counseling Psychology, and Jeff Measelle and Monika Lind from Psychology) would like to invite your feedback on speakers for next year’s Leona Tyler Lecture, to be held in Fall of 2017. The Leona Tyler Lecture directive (included in full at the end of this email) is to bring to campus outstanding scholars from other highly-regarded institutions to give a lecture on themes associated with Leona Tyler’s scholarship: the understanding and study of individuality and diversity; counseling and clinical work; human development; children's and adults' interest and choice patterns; and ways of promoting peace. This year we are also working to improve the representation of the speaker as well as his/her research focus.
To this end, we have compiled a list of potential speakers. Some of these names are from last year, since Hiro Yoshikawa was the first asked last year. Because schedules get booked up, our goal is to invite and book a speaker next month. Therefore, please review the attached list of speakers and provide feedback to me (Nicole Giuliani: giuliani at uoregon.edu)<mailto:giuliani at uoregon.edu)> by the end of December, 2016. We are especially interested in learning if you:
* Are excited or concerned about a potential speaker for any reason.
* Have a personal connection to a potential speaker.
Thank you!
Nicole
The Tyler directive:
"To bring to campus outstanding scholars from other highly-regarded institutions who will give a lecture or seminar on one of the following themes associated with Leona Tyler's own scholarship: the understanding and study of individuality and diversity; counseling and clinical work; human development; children's and adults' interest and choice patterns; and ways of promoting peace, with a preference for a rotation of these themes over time to further commemorate the range of Leona's interest. In addition, available funds may be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled at the University of Oregon who are majoring in Psychology, with preference to those with an emphasis in the areas listed above. Selection of the visiting scholar and/or scholarship recipients will be made by a committee appointed by the Head of the Psychology Department, and the committee will include at least one member representing the discipline of counseling."
