Dear students seeking internship:

Please read below.

 	* If you haven't already, sign up for MATCH News and possibly the
APPIC list as well.
 	* ^ This is important because I have sabbatical this fall and this is
the last email I'll forward from these folks. Ellen may send some, but
we assume you are tracking this yourself!
 	* Ellen is going to let you know what is needed for the
program/training director/internship readiness process.
 	* Guess what? It's fall, more or less. If that sends a surge of
anxiety through your very being, channel that adrenaline into counting
your hours and preparing your application base.
 	* October comes up very quickly, especially if you're, say, trying to
get a dissertation proposal in. DO NOT PUT OFF INTERNSHIP TASKS.

 	* Proofread your materials, including essays. Then have someone else
who can spell do it again.
 	* Check that your transcript is accurate.
 	* Change your outgoing phone message so it's professional. No
children, dogs, Ariana Grande.
 	* Ditto your electronic signatures. Bonus points for spelling "Gandhi"
correctly in your sig line.
 	* Get a flu shot.
 	* Talk with your GTF supervisor about the schedule from now to
February and be proactive about missing for interviews.

 	* I will be available again in late December. Between now and then,
have a productive and fascinating internship application process!

Enjoy!

Message from the AAPI Online Coordinator, Mariella M. Self, Ph.D.
(mmself at texaschildrens.org)

This message contains information about three important topics related
to the AAPI Online application process:

> 1. AAPI Online now available for students
> 2. The revised APPIC Standardized Reference Form
> 3. AAPI Online enhancements

AAPI ONLINE NOW AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS

The APPIC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the APPIC
Application for Psychology Internships (AAPI Online) is now available
(https://portal.appicas.org) for students. Students may now access the
Application Portal for the AAPI Online to create and develop their
internship applications for the 2016-2017 selection process.

Academic Directors of Clinical Training (DCTs) and individuals who
provide references (e.g., faculty, supervisors) will have access to the
AAPI Online once students reach the point in the application process
when they request DCT verification and/or references. All individuals
who provide references for students will be required to use the revised
Standardized Reference Form (SRF). The Selection Portal, used by
internship Training Directors to access and review applications, will be
accessible beginning October 1, 2016.

The AAPI Online must be used by students to apply to all APPIC-member
internship programs as well as those non-member programs that
participate in the APPIC Match. All applications must be submitted
online, and no site may request a printed copy of a student's
application materials. The use of the AAPI Online to apply to programs
that are not participating in the APPIC Match is prohibited. Students
should be aware that each internship program establishes its own
application deadline date for Phase I of the Match.

Detailed instructions for the AAPI Online may be found on the APPIC
website at http://www.appic.org/AAPI-APPA and embedded in the AAPI
Online using the Instructions button at the top right of each section.

REVISED STANDARDIZED REFERENCE FORM

As you may know, last year a new Standardized Reference Form (SRF) was
implemented as a required format for all references. This occurred in
the context of longstanding concerns expressed regarding the utility and
consistency of traditional letters of recommendation, specifically in
the area of student needs for future growth and development. The
original form was developed by a work group of the Council of Chairs of
Training Councils (CCTC), which was comprised of the presidents/chairs
of thirteen graduate and post-graduate training councils and was formed
in 2013 to consider ways in which the process of recommendation letters
for internship could be improved. CCTC gathered feedback following the
initial implementation of the SRF after the 2015-2016 internship match,
and feedback warranted substantial modification of the SRF to shorten
and simplify the form. Therefore, a revised version of the SRF will be
used for this internship selection cycle.

All internship programs, students, and letter-writers who participate in
the Match are required to use this revised Standardized Reference Form
(SRF) in lieu of a free-form letter of recommendation. Students should
ensure that those who will be providing their references are informed
about the requirement to use the SRF, and may wish to inform them that
due to its revision this process is anticipated to be less burdensome
this year.

A copy of the revised SRF, as well as FAQs about the SRF, may be
accessed from the following link:

AAPI ONLINE ENHANCEMENTS

Each year, APPIC plans improvements and any needed modifications to the
AAPI Online. A brief list of enhancements may be found here:

Below is a description of the three AAPI Online enhancements expected to
be of most benefit to students:

> 1. Applicants will be shown more detailed status information about each of their submitted applications, allowing them to more easily determine why a given application may be listed as incomplete (e.g., due to a missing reference letter or transcript).
>
> 2. A new item will allow applicants to identify Master's degrees that are in progress or have been completed at the applicant's current doctoral institution.
>
> 3. A total of 15 assessment instruments have been added to the AAPI Online assessment list.

>> Adult:

> 1) 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF)

>> 2) Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE)

>> 3) Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Fourth Edition (PPVT-4)

>> 4) Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV)

>> 5) Wechsler Memory Scale - Fourth Edition (WMS-IV)

>> 6) Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence - Second Edition (WASI-II)

>> 7) Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R)

>> Child:

> 1) Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule IV (ADIS-IV)

>> 2) Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R)

>> 3) Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2)

>> 4) Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Fourth Edition (PPVT-4)

>> 5) Leiter International Performance Scale, Third Edition (Leiter-3)

>> 6) Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V)

>> 7) Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence - Second Edition (WASI-II)

>> 8) Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition (Vineland-II)

Please let me know if you have content questions or feedback about the
AAPI Online, and I wish you well in the match!
