<b>Description: </b>This presentation draws on phenomenological research, multiple case studies, and constructivist grounded theory to explore formerly incarcerated individuals' psychotherapy processes and strengths. These qualitative methods help reveal the

 nuanced lived experiences, adaptive strategies, and systemic obstacles encountered post-incarceration. Practical applications of trauma-informed and strength practices, supported by evidence from this research, will be discussed for enhancing therapeutic outcomes

 and personally meaningful societal reintegration.</div>

Sergio Maldonado Aguiñiga is a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at Purdue University, currently completing an internship at the APA-accredited Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island. As a bicultural and bilingual psychologist-in-training,

 he has provided mental health services in rural and correctional settings, focusing on underserved populations, including immigrants, refugees, justice-involved, and economically marginalized communities. Sergio is a recipient of the NASEM Ford Foundation

 Predoctoral Fellowship, which supports his dissertation exploring the elements that contribute to effective therapeutic relationships between therapists and formerly incarcerated clients and how those relationships unfold over time. </div>
