<p class="MsoNormal">I am pleased to let you know that on Friday we submitted the college’s IHP proposals to the Office of the Provost. Each proposal represents the hard work and dedication of both the faculty and staff who engaged in conceptualizing the contributions
of each potential position, as well those engaged in the details associated with submission. I am pleased in the faculty governance that each of your units used to advance this important work. We noted:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><i><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif">In Fall 2022, the call for proposals was shared broadly with the faculty and staff in the College of Education (COE) and each of our three academic departments
employed their faculty governance procedures to determine, prioritize, develop, and submit a single high-quality submission for their department based on the criteria outlined in the call for proposals and on the most pressing needs of the discipline and program.
At the outset of development, each department met with me in my role as COE Interim Dean to discuss their proposals, and as a college, we united in the decision to focus this year’s growth on the college’s undergraduate programs.</span></i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We moved forward 4 proposals. Three represented core programmatic needs in each of our three undergraduate programs, and the fourth proposal was submitted at the request of the UO Environment Initiative for a position that would be in alignment
with our college. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I am proud to represent and advocate for each of these proposals as I believe they represent a strong and positive next step for each of our three academic departments. The proposals, now that they are submitted, will enter into the next
university steps of the process including a university faculty committee review, review by the dean’s council, and review by the provost. I will be invited into the latter part of the process and will be given an opportunity to advocate for and emphasize the
need for these positions in our departments. We typically hear the final conclusions of this process in early Spring. I will provide whatever information I can as it arises.<o:p></o:p></p>

</b><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif;color:black">This proposal focuses on recruiting a faculty member in the field of Social and Cultural Foundations of Education. This scholar will bring much-needed faculty leadership to the undergraduate
program in Educational Foundations (EdF). This TTF member will also help develop revisions to the curriculum in response to new K-12 Oregon state mandates that require Oregon schools, and by extension teacher education programs, to include instruction in the
areas of Ethnic Studies, Tribal History/Shared History, and Holocaust education. This proposed position is uniquely suited to respond to these new instructional standards and integrate this suite of cultural studies topics into the EdF curriculum. Additionally,
the faculty member will contribute to the growth of the new Certificate in Educational Foundations - Secondary program that provides future secondary teachers with education coursework. This proposed hire will have an emerging record of educational research
related to social and cultural studies that will compliment established areas of excellence in EDST.

</b><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif">In keeping with the College of Education’s (COE’s) mission as a "community of leading researchers and practitioners dedicated to transformational scholarship, integrated teaching, and collaborative practice
designed to enhance individual lives and systems" the Communication Disorders and Sciences (CDS) program is seeking a tenure track faculty member to (1) teach and mentor students in the CDS undergraduate program, a cornerstone major at UO that prepares students
to work in underserved areas of need, which is experiencing severe faculty shortages, and (2) fill a critical gap in studying educational practices consistent with the sociocultural paradigm shift in understanding language development from a neurodiverse perspective.</span><o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<b>FHS Summary: </b><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif">We propose a TTF Assistant Professor of Inclusive Sport and Well-Being position to support the Family and Human Services (FHS) program within the Counseling Psychology and Human Services
Department, and to bring a new line of research excellence that responds to student interest and empirically identified inequities in sport/physical activity and mental health among communities often excluded from this work (e.g., individuals with disabilities,
student athletes). In sum, the individual in this position will train the next generation of community leaders in addressing complex physical activity/sport and mental well-being with innovative and applied solutions that promote health equity in community
settings. This is an innovative and integrative area of potential growth for the university given the UO’s excellence in all three areas (sports, mental health, disability research), combined with the nationwide need for an increased workforce who understands
and can provide mental health supports.</span><o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<b><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif">Environment Initiative Summary:
</span></b><span style="font-family:"Calibri Light",sans-serif">Environmental Education and Communication is designated as a core hub within the Environmental Initiative (EI). Moreover, Environmental Education and Communication is one of three focal research
themes targeted in the second wave of hires under the EI for 2023-24.<a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn1" href="#_ftn1" name="_ftnref1" title="">[1]</a> The field of Environmental and Climate Education is poised to grow tremendously, particularly as states, including
Oregon, begin to focus on climate education in K-12 schools. The recent tenure-line, endowed chair position of Environmental and Climate Education at UC Irvine is an example of this emerging field.<a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn2" href="#_ftn2" name="_ftnref2" title="">[2]
A 2022 Oregon Health Authority report on Climate Change and Youth Mental Health reported from Oregon youth “feelings of hopelessness, despair, anxiety and frustration about climate change”</a><a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn3" href="#_ftn3" name="_ftnref3" title="">[3].
Oregon youth also feel “dismissed by older generat</a>ions” and “angry that not enough is being done to protect their future”<a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn4" href="#_ftn4" name="_ftnref4" title="">[4]. The report found that Oregon youth see climate as connected
deeply to systemic racism and oppression and that youth are asking for a. space to share their feelings about climate ch</a>ange, b. engagement in making social change, c. stronger relationships with the natural environment<a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn5" href="#_ftn5" name="_ftnref5" title="">[5].
