I hope you are experiencing the excitement of hiring season in academia. Last week the Ballmer Institute, College of Education, and Department of Psychology came together to host 12 phenomenal prospective tenure track faculty during a 2-day
symposium event. The talks were attended by many COE faculty and students. Thanks to those who attended, volunteered to participate in lunches and dinners, and engaged with our prospective colleagues. The vision for the 2-day symposium came from COE Professor
Beth Stormshak and Psychology Professor Jenn Pfeifer, along with the search committee comprised of COE and Psychology faculty. Special thanks to
Geovanna Rodriguez, Nichole Kelley, John Seeley, and Beth Stormshak for representing the College of Education so capably on this committee. Our joint effort and collaboration with Psychology is fundamental to the success of the Ballmer Institute and

Finally, I’ll close with a reminder of our upcoming listening session on Friday January 20th.
These COE community listening sessions are being scheduled throughout the academic year and are part of an ongoing strategy in the College of Education to support community and continue to foster a sense of belongingness.
Community listening sessions emerged from recent sessions with student groups during fall term and are a joint endeavor between the COE dean and the DEI committee with leadership from Assistant Dean for Administration and Equity and Inclusion,
Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann. Separate listening sessions are planned for various employee and student groups as well as identity groups. Our intention is that these sessions will help foster a sense of community and cultivate trust. We are especially
interested in hearing about what’s working well (so we don’t mess that up) and what areas require attention. Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann is developing a thoughtful and inclusive schedule for these meetings and we truly look forward to meeting with you, listening
to what’s on your mind, and evolving together with the aim of improving our community and climate as well as accelerating the impact of our work.
