<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Nancy Golden informed me of a sad loss of one of UO’s College of Education long-time faculty members Dr. Paul Goldman.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Dr. Paul Goldman passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2023. He left this world peacefully due to sudden heart failure that may have been associated with Covid-19.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Paul received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1974 and served as Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Oregon from 1977 to 2004 followed by an eight year period at Washington
State University. Paul published in the major journals in the educational leadership field and chaired over 60 doctoral dissertations. He was central to the creation and impact of UO’s flourishing educational leadership master’s degree program in Canada which
thrived throughout his time at the UO.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">After retiring, Paul continued his commitment to the profession by focusing his energetic spirit on two different academic projects. He worked tirelessly with other colleagues in the creation of the Leadership
& Policy Mentorship Program, a program supporting junior faculty success in achieving tenure and promotion. He was also instrumental in establishing the University Council for Educational Leadership (UCEA) Retirees in Action, a group dedicated to sustaining
the mission and implementing goals of UCEA. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Colleagues, friends, and students who were fortunate to know him, agree that Paul was a truly good man, who brought a sense of integrity, generosity, kindness and caring to every situation. He was reliable,
inclusive, intelligent, optimistic, sensitive<span style="color:#0070C0">, </span>and generous in his support of others. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Paul is survived by his beloved wife, also an accomplished UO faculty member in Sociology and Religious Studies, Dr. Marion (Mimi) Goldman, his two sons, Michael and Henry, along with daughter-in-law, Cassandra
Zaree. A Celebration of Life for Paul will be some time in February.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
