<p class="MsoNormal">I started my day this morning attending an Education Studies Department meeting. EDST department head, Professor
<b>Joanna Goode</b>, invited faculty and staff to share something that they were grateful for. These gratitude statements reminded me how powerful this practice is. That is, when we take a moment to express our appreciation for something or someone, we strengthen
our commitment and deepen our community. I invite each of you to pause and reflect on your own gratitude. Thank you, Department of Education Studies, for connecting to each other, connecting to our community, and carving out a few moments for this practice.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I ended my workday attending a reception and research poster session in honor and recognition of the 2022 recipients of the NSF ESPRIT and MaSTERIt student scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to high-achieving students in science
and mathematics to become secondary science/math teachers through our UOTeach program. These Noyce-supported projects are game-changing for our undergraduate students in STEM who are pursuing careers in teaching. These projects also demonstrate a partnership
between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education that is truly transformational. Thanks to the excellent work of COE faculty
<b>Jenefer Husman, Jill Baxter, Julie Heffernan, Katie Fitch </b>and our CAS colleagues Dean Livelybrooks, Brian Rebar, and others for making this program a career-transforming opportunity for our STEM teacher educator workforce.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto">Last evening
<b>Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann</b>, <b>Sylvia Thompson</b>, and I met with our <a href="https://education.uoregon.edu/coe-community-diversity-advisory-board">
Community Diversity Advisory Board</a>. We had a rich discussion about building a positive climate in the COE, a timely conversation considering Interim President
<b>Patrick Phillips’</b> message to campus today about our institutional climate. President Phillips shared the initial, high-level results of the
<a href="https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/ideal-climate-survey-initial-results-june-2022">
IDEAL Climate Survey </a> conducted by Gallup of our faculty, officers of administration, classified staff, and graduate employees. President Phillips’ message to campus mentioned four areas of improvement: 1) employee engagement and onboarding, 2) equity,
3) response, reporting and antidiscrimination, and 4) faculty service, promotion, and tenure. All of these areas resonate, and
<a href="https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/ideal-climate-survey-committees-teams-and-working-groups">
work groups</a> have been charged with identifying strategies, resources, tools, and activities in their area of focus to improve the campus climate. We will have more information about this important and ongoing work very soon.

<p class="MsoNormal">In addition to the very important work of improving our campus climate, we are working on faculty recruitment. I am delighted to share that we have interviewed two strong candidates for the

<b>Dave DeGarmo</b> <b>with Jorge Ramírez-Garcia, Leslie Leve,</b> and<b> Ellen McWhirter</b> as co-investigators. The project, entitled, “Enhancing SARS-Co-V-2 Rapid Testing Acceptance in Latinx Communities” will tailor the Promotores de Salud COVID-19 evidence-based
health promotion intervention developed previously by this team and other PSI scientists (<b>Stephanie DeAnda, Liz Budd, Camille Cioffi, Anne Marie Mauricio</b>) and deliver it to 400 Latinx participants. This study will use a clustered randomized trial design
to evaluate the addition of a brief behavioral self-affirming implementation intention (SAII) intervention, in conjunction with rapid testing distribution in partnership with events led by the Mexican Consulate. SAII is an approach that is evidence-based for
increasing acceptance of health messaging, increasing intentions to change, increasing health promoting behaviors,
</span>reducing stigma, <span style="color:black">and </span>reducing<span style="color:black"> psychological distress. The project will run from 11/2022 – 10/2024 with this $1M new award.</span><o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<b>Camille Cioffi </b>and<b> Leslie Leve, </b>with<b> Anne Marie Mauricio</b> as co-investigator. This study, entitled “Supported employment to create a community culture of SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing among people who inject drugs: PeerConnect2Test,” will include
the co-design of a supported employment program with people who inject drugs (PWID) and community partners. Through this grant, PWID will be employed as peer health workers to distribute SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing to their communities. The research will assess
the impact of this low barrier employment on the overall well-being of PWID peer health workers and on health outcomes for other PWID in their networks. The project is in partnership with HIV Alliance and will run from 12/2022 – 11/2024 with this $2M new award.</span><o:p></o:p></li></ul>
