<p class="MsoNormal">Recently there have been a couple of rent<span style="color:#1F497D">al</span> vehicle accidents costing each unit $5,000.

<p class="MsoNormal">I recommend renting vehicles under the state contract w<span style="color:#1F497D">h</span>ere there are some coverages as part of this contract with Enterprise/National car, the state contract. When renting outside of the state rental
vehicle contract, I do encourage departments to add coverage through the rental vehicle service provider you have chosen.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><i><span style="color:#201F1E;background:white">The University continues to explore auto insurance coverage options every year at insurance renewal.<b> At this time the department or unit deductible for property,
vehicle and liability claims is $5,000. </b>Expenses related to a claim above the first $5,000 are then covered by the University self-insurance pool which is funded through the general fund. The department or unit, including research units are directly
responsible for the first $5,000. There are not any “Dean” funds or foundation funds to pay for rental car accidents.
</span><b><span style="background:yellow;mso-highlight:yellow">There are options</span><span style="background:yellow;mso-highlight:yellow"> for coverage, which are using the state contract or directly paying for the rental car coverage through the vehicle
service provider.</span><span style="color:#201F1E;background:white"> If a unit does not utilize one of these options, the unit is taking on the risk for $5,000 per occurrence.
